RSPB Bempton Cliffs | Photography Workshop
Teaching photography at RSPB Bempton Cliffs was an absolutely unforgettable and deeply rewarding experience. The sheer beauty and raw drama of the towering cliffs, combined with the incredible variety of wildlife, created the perfect and inspiring backdrop for photography enthusiasts at every skill level. From the graceful soaring gannets high above to the charming nesting puffins tucked safely in their crevices, every moment presented an amazing opportunity to capture stunning images that truly captivate and tell a story.
The unique geography of the cliffs provides exceptional vantage points and wonderfully natural lighting that significantly enhanced our photographic opportunities throughout the day. It was especially inspiring to guide participants through specialised techniques tailored specifically for wildlife photography — from mastering fast shutter speeds needed to freeze swift bird flight, to understanding the immense patience and timing required for intimate close-up shots of nesting birds safely in their natural habitat.
What made the experience truly special and memorable was witnessing the visible growth in each attendee’s confidence and skill over the course of the workshop. Seeing the early morning fog gradually lift over the cliffs while cameras clicked away, or the sheer joy lighting up faces as someone finally nailed the perfect shot of a gliding seabird in mid-flight, really emphasised why teaching here is so deeply rewarding and fulfilling.
Overall, the RSPB Bempton Cliffs workshop offered so much more than just photography skills; it beautifully fostered a genuine connection with nature and nurtured a heartfelt appreciation for ongoing conservation efforts. I’m already eagerly looking forward to the next opportunity to return to this extraordinary location and share its many wonders through the lens with new and returning photographers alike.
